Move, rotate, scale and flip
The transform tools work on the selection. If nothing is selected, click the thing you want to transform first.
Move (M) moves the selection.
- Click a point to move from.
- Move the pointer. A preview follows it.
- Click the destination.
Type a distance such as 2m and press Enter to move an exact distance in
the direction you’re pointing. The arrow keys lock the
axes, and Shift locks
the current snap.
When you move a vertex, edge or face, the geometry connected to it stretches to follow. Modlumi refuses moves that would collapse an edge or a face.
Rotate
Section titled “Rotate”Rotate (Q) rotates the selection around a pivot.
- Hover a face to orient the protractor.
- Click the pivot point.
- Click a reference point to start the angle.
- Click to set the end of the angle.
Near the protractor, the angle snaps to 15° steps. Type an angle in degrees,
such as 45 or -30, or a slope, such as 8:12, and press Enter. You can
type a new angle after finishing to adjust the same rotation.
To rotate around a direction that isn’t on the protractor, drag from the pivot along an edge. The Right, Left and Up arrows lock the protractor to the red, green and blue axes.
Scale (S) resizes the selection using grips on its bounding box.
- Drag a corner grip to scale evenly in every direction.
- Drag an edge or face grip to stretch in one or two directions.
Hold Shift to switch between even and one-direction scaling, and Ctrl (Option on macOS) to scale around the center instead of the opposite grip.
Type a factor such as 2 or a percentage such as 50% and press Enter.
You can also type a target size with a unit, such as 3m. To scale each axis
by a different amount, separate the values with commas.
Flip mirrors the selection.
- Click the red, green or blue plane to flip around the selection’s center.
- Drag a plane and release to mirror around another position.
- Press Right, Left or Up to flip around the red, green or blue plane straight away.
Hover a face to use it as a custom mirror plane, shown in magenta. Press Alt (Command on macOS) to switch between the selected object’s own axes and the model’s axes.
Make copies
Section titled “Make copies”Press Ctrl (Option on macOS) while using Move, Rotate or Flip to make a copy instead. The original stays where it is, and the copy is selected.
Arrays
Section titled “Arrays”After you place a copy with Move or Rotate, type a count to make more:
| Type | Result |
|---|---|
x7 or 7x |
Seven more copies, each spaced like the first |
/7 or 7/ |
Seven copies evenly spaced between the original and the first copy |
For example, to place a row of eight fence posts 2 m apart: select a post,
press M, press Ctrl, move it 2 m along an axis, then type x7 and
press Enter.
You can keep adjusting until you press Escape or start something else: type another count to replace the array, or another distance or angle to change the spacing. The whole thing is one undo step. Arrays can have 1 to 1000 copies.
