Select and hide

Select (Space) is the default tool. Click an edge, face, group or component to select it. Clicking an edge that belongs to a curve, such as an arc or circle, selects the whole curve.

To Do this
Select one thing Click it
Add or remove one thing Shift-click
Add to the selection Ctrl-click
Remove from the selection Shift+Ctrl-click
Select everything inside a box Drag from left to right
Select everything the box touches Drag from right to left
Clear the selection Click empty space

The modifier keys work with box selection too.

Double-click a group or component to open it for editing. See Groups and components.

Press Delete or Backspace, or choose Edit → Delete, to erase the selection.

The Eraser (E) erases edges as you point at them. Hover an edge to see it highlighted in blue, then click to erase it. To erase several edges at once, drag across them and release. A drag is one undo step.

Erasing an edge that bounds a face also removes the face. Erasing an edge between two faces that lie in the same plane merges them into one face.

Hide things to get them out of the way without erasing them.

  • Edit → Hide hides the selection.
  • Edit → Unhide → Selected shows the selected hidden things again.
  • Edit → Unhide → Last shows what you hid most recently.
  • Edit → Unhide → All shows everything in the group or component you’re editing.

You can’t select hidden things in the viewport. Turn on View → Hidden Geometry or View → Hidden Objects to see and select them, or use the eye buttons in the Outliner.

Hiding and unhiding can be undone.
